ABOUT IUP

With its original 1875 building still standing at the heart of its campus, Indiana University of Pennsylvania has a long standing tradition of academic excellence.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania is recognized for its combination of academic excellence with affordable prices. IUP provides an intellectually challenging experience to more than 14,500 students at the university’s three campuses, all easily accessible from Western Pennsylvania and the Middle Atlantic region. IUP’s primary campus is located in Indiana, Pennsylvania, a safe, friendly community in easy reach of a wide range of outdoor activities.

Academic offerings include more than 100 undergraduate majors with a variety of internship and study-abroad programs, more than 40 master’s degree programs, and eight programs leading to the doctoral degree. Unusual opportunities for research at all levels and the Robert E. Cook Honors College provide special challenges for academic growth. Our range of opportunities and quality of instruction are characteristic of a big university, yet at IUP, close, one-to-one relationships develop within the teaching framework, and a strong sense of community prevails.

IUP has been recognized by numerous publications for its high academic standards and competitive costs. Here are some of the accolades bestowed upon IUP;

  • Princeton Review’s Best 366 Colleges, 2007-2008 edition. This is the seventh consecutive year that IUP was selected for the guidebook.
  • IUP’s Robert E. Cook Honors College is featured in Donald Asher’s Cool Colleges for the Hyper-Intelligent.
  • IUP is the only Pennsylvania institution ranked in the top 10 national listing of specialized research universities in the 2007 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index.
  • Consumers Digest Magazine ranks IUP as number four in the magazine’s June 2007 rankings of the “Best Values in Public Colleges and Universities.”
  • IUP is ranked at 40 out of 100 colleges and universities selected for Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine’s February 2007 “Best Values in Public Colleges” listing.
  • The Eberly College of Business and Information Technology was named to the “Top 100 Businesses – 2006″ by Pennsylvania Business Central.
