Carey Carries Hawks to WinPublished on: February 8, 2010
Just six days removed from a very disappointing loss to West Virginia, the Crimson Hawks had their chance at them again on Friday night. This game belonged to the Crimson Hawks and rookie goalie Padraig Carey. Carey stopped all 25 shots earning him his first shutout of his IUP career and second for the Hawks this season. Carey has stepped in and played well for Brian Matesevac who suffered an injury to his hand in practice in early January. The first period saw both Carey and WVU’s goalie Chris Wilder stand tall in net. It wasn’t until 6:21 left in the first during 4 on 4 action that Seth Feldman was able to find the back of the net for the Hawks as he converted a pass from Joe Ford to score the eventual game winner. Late in the third, West Virginia pulled Wilder in favor of the xtra attacker but EJ Stepano iced the game away with 41 seconds left to secure the 2-0 victory. The Crimson Hawks have 2 regular season games left. Senior Night will be Friday February 12 at 8pm as they host Youngstown State at the S&T Bank Arena. The Crimson Hawks then travel to Warrendale, PA to due battle with Slippery Rock on Saturday February 13 at 6:20. The CHMA Playoffs will be held at the S&T Bank Arena February 26-28.
